MAINTENANCE
Spousal maintenance is needed when one party’s income and assets are insufficient to meet their day-to-day needs, such as when one partner receives considerably less than the other or has not worked for part or all of the marriage and is unable to financially self-sufficient right away. Some factors to be considered are income, length of marriage, indirect/direct contributions, etc.
Another form of maintenance is child maintenance. In Singapore, a child under the age of 21 is entitled to child maintenance, save for special circumstances. The court may order payment of child maintenance in the form of a monthly allowance or a lump sum from the more financially stable party, subject to certain exceptions.
