LASTING POWER OF ATTORNEY
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) covers decisions about your financial affairs, or your health and care. It comes into effect when you lose mental capacity, or when you are no longer able to make decisions for yourself.
LPA is only applicable to people who have not lost their mental capacity. Essentially, it is a legal instrument that is drafted or executed before the loss of mental capacity. There are 2 areas that a donee can be appointed to take control of – (1) personal welfare and (2) property & affair matters.
At Emerald Law, we can hold your LPA to ensure that you have a plan in place for administering your financial and personal affairs if you are ever unable to do so. Ensure to set up an LPA if you want to prevent the need for deputyship, and to make sure you are covered in the future.
